A Happy New Year and a Happy New Website to go with it!
I’ve built my new portfolio from scratch for the site refresh. It’s a funny experience looking over the historical weddings I’ve photographed going back 15 years. Many of my old image favourites are no longer included. Pre digital film work from before 2005 has completely disappeared and almost everything on my new site is from the last 5 years which is the way it should be. Onwards and upwards for 2017!
2016 has been an Olympic Games year so Nikon have released their new flagship camera. The Nikon D5 unleashes a surge of new low light possibilities and has been a joy to use. While new technology improves your chances to snatch the most fleeting images from the shadows, remembering that wedding photography is all about the relationship between you and the people is key. I try to keep a low profile but no photographer is an island. There’s almost always moment at the beginning every encounter to calibrate your relationship with the key players as they clock you and then hopefully… keep calm and carry on! I really appreciate the apparent trust my clients and their guests place with me and I certainly don’t take it for granted.
With fine wedding photography exploding all over the internets, the competition in my field is as much an inspiration as it is a reminder to keep upping my game. You’re only as good as your last wedding! Fortunately, this year has taken me to some wonderful new places including Hestercombe Gardens in Somerset, Château de Brindos in Biarritz, Tatton Park in Cheshire and, more locally, the St. Pancras Renaissance with their epic staircase.
Here’s to new great adventures in 2017. For as long as people are still falling in love and getting married, we’re all doing something right!
